Know About RFID Tag Clearly Just Need Three Steps

in RFID Tutorials on . 0 Comments

RFID or Radio Frequency Identification is one of the lately evolved technologies in the world of wireless and contactless technology. It serves the real benefit of wireless systems to its user by enabling contactless data and information transfers and this is the reason why it has been widely adapted by people in just few recent years. However, if you also make use of the Radio Frequency Identification devices then, understanding the concept of RFID tag can be very beneficial for you to efficiently use your devices.

In general, a RFID system includes four basic components namely RFID reader, antenna, cable and RFID tag. However, out of these components, RFID tag is one of the most important components that significantly impact the overall success of the system.  And, here, the three basic things about RFID tags are mentioned which users should know:

The IC type

The IC or Integrated Chip can be called brain of the RFID tag as it stores complete and unique information on the tag. The type of IC has significant value because storage capacity of the device varies according the type. However, generally, most of the RFID tags adhere to the Class 1 Generation 2 standard IC chip and use 96bits of memory to store Electronic Product Code (EPC) which is considered enough to store 24 hexadecimal characters. Though, depending upon the requirement extended memory chips can also be used.

Antenna

Antenna is another major part of a RFID tag which is fabricated on the same module along with IC chip. There are basically two ways in which antenna system is employed in a tag. For, small RFID tags small antennas are employed which allow limited range of operation and for, large RFID tags; large antennas are used to get longer read range.

Encasement

Encasement is one of the most important parts of a RFID tag. It is in-actual a physical outer casing of the device to provide protection to the internal parts of the tag from impact of temperature, water or metal environments. Also, it is the encasement that decides the actual shape and size of the tag. Some specially designed encasements also offer unique attachment options like epoxy, wires, embedding or bolts, screws or rivets.
